AIM bot still offline

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

A few weeks ago AOL promoted the Feed Crier AIM bot to a special status on their network. The idea behind it was to create better service for our users, and in particular make it easier for new users to sign up for Feed Crier. Unfortunately, there’s been a few glitches in the process. For […]

Red Light, Green Light

Thursday, April 12th, 2007

A new feature is being tested in Feed Crier. Tell Feed Crier “off” and it will pause your alerts until you tell it “on.” Any alerts you received while it was paused will be delivered when you turn it back on. Nice and simple. The commands don’t show up in the help file yet, so telling […]

Top feeds feed

Thursday, April 5th, 2007

We just added a feed of the top feeds. Quick, everyone go subscribe to the feed at once so that the Feed Crier Top Feeds feed will be on the Top Feeds list and appear in the Top Feeds Feed. It’s also available in OPML, if you’re into that sort of thing.

I want it all

Sunday, March 4th, 2007

Feed Crier has had one long outstanding bug that’s driven me nuts. If a feed had multiple new items, only the newest one would be sent to you. If Bob’s Puppy Auctions posted 5 new puppies at once, you’d only see the newest one. If your best friend posted 10 new links to their Del.icio.us […]

My feed consumption habits

Sunday, March 4th, 2007

Brad Feld tells how he reads feeds… I subscribe to 734 feeds. Until a few weeks ago (when I started using NewsGator Desktop), I fired up FeedDemon once a day, spent 30 minutes going through all my unread items, forwarding and clipping as appropriate, and then not looking at my feeds again until […]

Customer Service tips

Friday, February 23rd, 2007

Joel Spolsky has some great tips on providing customer service. I’d like to add one more. Customer service is the job of everyone in the company. That includes the CEO, the sales guys, and the developers. Everyone should have some contact with the customer, because that’s how you learn. Some of Feed Crier’s best features have come […]

Jabber and Google Talk

Saturday, February 10th, 2007

Feed Crier can now deliver alerts to any Jabber server, including Google Talk and many corporate instant messaging platforms. Jabber support has been in beta for several weeks. Thanks so much to the valuable feedback that our beta testers have given over this time period. The new support was soft launched on Monday, but we’ve withheld making […]

Feed update intelligence

Friday, December 15th, 2006

Lots of people are using Feed Crier to keep an eye on fast-changing news sites like Digg and Tailrank. But Feed Crier’s update mechanism treated all feeds equally. This meant that a subscriber to Digg might not be the first to hear about the latest Apple Phone rumor. His friends would laugh at him for […]

Testers Wanted

Monday, December 11th, 2006

We’re looking for a few testers to try out Feed Crier’s upcoming Jabber Support. To try this out, you’ll need to have a Jabber account, either on your own server or through a Jabber provider. If you want to test out Feed Crier Jabber, send an email to adam AT feedcrier.com and tell us your name, […]

Managing high-volume feeds through Feed Crier

Tuesday, November 21st, 2006

Deane Barker’s getting overwhelmed by high-volume feeds in his reader. I find with these that whenever I open Bloglines, there are a couple dozen posts. I don’t have the time or inclination to read them all right then, so I leave them. Then, next time, there are more. Eventually Bloglines tops out at 200 […]
